We appreciate you checking out our Team River Runner: Bluegrass blog. TRR is committed to promote health and healing through paddling. By getting our wounded warriors out on the water, we let them know that we are here for them, and that we support them, and they discover what they have in them... and that allows them to move forward. We are all just paddler's when we are on the water. Please feel free to leave comments on the posts and let us know what you think. Come join the movement!

Jackson Kayaks Dynamic Duo

There is a new boss in town, and it is the Jackson Kayaks Dynamic Duo. I was against this boat idea at first... I mean a tandem whitewater boat! Hadn't we seen that before with not much success! That was until I saw it, then paddled it!
I admit, paddling with one of your best friends (who is a guy as well) on Valentine's Day, can draw some interesting looks from other paddlers, and other passersby's, for that matter. But with a new boat in tow, we had to try it out. It was a bit cold the Valentine's Day, so we were not real enthusiastic about spending any time upside down, but upon seal launching the 12 + foot boat in the water, we got our first taste of the 40 degree water, as we immediately had to go to a brace which ended us up upside down. Not that the boat was unstable, just that he went left, I went right! We had discussed our roll technique before we began, so we both set up and went to a standard C to C roll after a 3 count. It was a little slow, but it came up. Later in the day, while attaining upstream, which was very easy in a long boat, we flipped, and instinctively we both went to a back deck roll. We came up faster this way then most people do in a solo boat!
We did try to surf, which it does on some wave, we tired multiple rolls, and anything else we could throw at it. The coolest part was that to make this thing eddy turn or peel out, you have to show a lot of faith to your paddling partner, because you need to throw a hard edge, almost 90 degrees, to get a fast turn. It is also a totally different ride front and back. Back is very dry, and riding very high. The large cockpit is roomy like a Cadillac. Front is very wet, tight fitting, and every wave feels like an awesome boof!
Overall, we both loved it. can't wait to try it on some bigger water. The two real nice things are that if you are getting bored with your local creeks, this adds a whole new "Fun" element to them, and challenges you as a paddler. Also, for a great price, you open up doors for beginners and kids to go along. I already have trips booked with my wife and my 4 year old son! See you on the water.
